Bruce A. McCarl is a University Distinguished Professor, Regents Professor, and Presidential Impact Fellow in the Department of Agricultural Economics at Texas A&M University, where he has been on the faculty since 1985 following earlier appointments at Purdue University and Oregon State University. His research addresses resource and agricultural policy questions in domestic and international settings, with a long-standing focus on the economics of climate change: the effects of a changing climate on agriculture and forestry, strategies for adapting agricultural systems to it, and the economics of greenhouse gas mitigation, including carbon sequestration, biofuels, and water and land management. A parallel line of his work develops the methodological tools — large-scale mathematical programming and sector models, and the treatment of risk and distributional effects in policy analysis — used across that research. He served as a member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, whose 2007 Nobel Peace Prize recognized the contributions of its participants, and is a Distinguished Fellow of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association.
